Reading Groups – shared reading aloud

The Reader Organization is a National and international charity based in Liverpool which promotes the shared reading of literature. They have found that reading aloud short sections of text and poetry followed by time given for the participants to converse has highly beneficial results as well as being hugely enjoyable. The benefits include the desire to ‘get into reading’ for those who may not be so motivated, but further, increased confidence and ability to communicate leading to enhanced sense of well-being.

I have completed the facilitator training for this practice and am particularly interested in working with groups who may be more reluctant readers, either pupils in school or their parents (or perhaps both?).
